World Policeman Makes Up Unmatched Pretext Out Of Thin Air

October 11, 2017

On September 29, the U.S. State Department claimed something laid up 21 U.S. diplomats and family members staying in Cuba. Symptoms allegedly reported to the State Department by diplomats have included headaches, difficulty concentrating and hearing loss. The alleged ailments were supposed to have started in November of last year but Cuban officials were not informed about even one of the allegations by the U.S. embassy or State Department prior to February 17. Despite having blocked everybody working for the Cuban government from examining the alleged patients, speaking with their doctors and insurance companies, and otherwise failing to prove that signs of illness were ever present, the U.S. government is expecting its empty claims of miraculous "attacks" on Americans in Cuba to be honored.

The U.S. followed up this deceptive tactic by ordering the withdrawal of all non-emergency personnel and their families from Cuba. Rex Tillerson also issued an advisory that other Americans should not travel to Cuba and expelled 15 Cuban embassy staff from Washington D.C. According to Tillerson, “the decision was made due to Cuba’s failure to take appropriate steps to protect our diplomats in accordance with its obligations under the Vienna Convention.”

Perhaps the theory is that a modern Cuban Kreskin used fancy temple tricks to cause the U.S. diplomats to eat fire and take trips to the moon in their sleep. However all that is certain is that the U.S. is making convenient claims to cast doubt on the effectiveness of Cuban institutions. According to the fascist logic of U.S. imperialism, the U.S. State Department is fully entitled to ride rough-shod over other countries and to declare them in violation of international treaties, even while other governments must tolerate the disruption and loss of resources. No one could be blamed for expecting the next steps of escalation to involve U.S. diplomats being made to quack like ducks and cluck like chickens before the court magician responsible again defies detection by flying away on an invisible magic carpet.

As is standard, Washington is making feeble excuses for continuing its decades-old blockade of Cuba with the goal of overthrowing the government, and restoring Cuba to the status of U.S. colony or neo-colony. So too, Washington is straining to find the ways to execute its worldwide strategy of depicting as failures and enemies, all governments that refuse or don't actively go along with the dictates of U.S. imperialism.
