U.S. Takes Dangerous, Aggressive Measures to Foment Tensions and Militarize the Korean Peninsula

November 24, 2014

U.S. military commanders recently incorporated flights from U.S. soil into “war games” simulating a military first-strike against the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The flights took place between November 14 and November 23 during the so-called “Max Thunder” military drills and, along with the military occupation of south Korea, are a component in U.S. imperialism’s strategy of “forward military deployment” to project its influence throughout Asia.

Spitting in the face of world public opinion, the U.S. is stepping up its militarization of the situation on the Korean peninsula. The Pentagon is deploying more weapons in and around the Korean peninsula while carrying out war exercises and spy-flights against the north.

The U.S. is also exerting all-around diplomatic, political, economic and ideological pressure aimed at forcing other countries to join in isolating and attacking the DPRK.

The U.S. government’s refusal to respect the sovereign rights of the Korean people – including the right for peaceful reunification according to the free and sovereign will of the people themselves – is not only a violation of the fundamental principles of international law, it is also the source of tensions on the Korean peninsula.

Today, U.S. imperialism, intent on world domination regardless of the cost to the peoples, is fomenting tensions and militarizing the Korean peninsula in order to prevent the peaceful reunification of Korea, destroy the DPRK and use it as a base for extending its domination throughout Asia.

Thus, today as in the past, the Korean people, find themselves in the forefront of the worldwide struggle against U.S. aggression.

By standing as an independent and sovereign country, by serving as a reliable base for the struggle for the reunification of Korea and as a bastion of worldwide anti-imperialist struggle, the DPRK and Korean people are making a big contribution to the defeat of U.S. imperialism’s “war on terrorism.”
