Stand With the Palestinian People!
May 16, 2011
On May 4 Hamas and Fatah signed a reconciliation deal with the aim of uniting the two major Palestinian political organizations and holding new presidential and legislative elections for the Palestinian Authority in a year.
After the deal was signed, the Palestinian people came out in rallies and demonstrations, declaring their determination to carry on their struggle for liberation until victory, until they regain their sovereignty by establishing an independent state in their historic homeland.
On May 1, in anticipation of the agreement, Israel's Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz announced that Israel would respond to the reconciliation deal by withholding some $88.7 million collected as taxes by Israel and owed to the Palestinian Authority.
On May 6 in Rome, U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton declared that the U.S. has the right to pick the government and leaders of the Palestinian people and "cannot support any government that consists of Hamas." Hamas was elected by overwhelming majority and has long been a foremost representative of the Palestinian people and their struggle for national liberation.
Just as the Palestinian people are rallying and fortifying their struggle, the people of the whole world must rally around the Palestinian people, support their struggle and oppose U.S.-Israeli aggression. The American people have special duties in this regard and must demand the immediate cut off of all U.S. aid to Israel and an end to U.S. interference and intervention in the Middle East.
The U.S.-Israeli aggressors are trying to wipe the Palestinian nation off the face of the earth. The Palestinians are fighting for their continued existence, for their salvation as a people. All of humanity must stand with them.
