Continuing U.S. Occupation of Iraq

June 1, 2009

On May 26, U.S. army chief of staff, Gen. George Casey said that the Pentagon is prepared to keep U.S. troops in Iraq for 10 more years.

U.S. military officials have repeatedly said that U.S. troop withdrawal must be "conditions based." General Casey stressed that sustained long-term involvement of U.S. troops should be expected in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

After more than 6 years, over 139,000 U.S. troops and over 132,000 private military contractors remain in Iraq, attempting to support an occupation which has brought nothing but war, torture, poverty, and suffering to the Iraqi people.

The plain truth is that U.S. imperialism will continue its war against Iraq until it is forced out of the country.

The American people support Iraq's independence and sovereignty and demand nothing less than the immediate and total withdrawal of all U.S. troops.
