The U.S. government currently has a total armed force of 2,685,713.

This includes 1,426,713 active duty soldiers and 1,259,000 reservists including Army and Air National Guard (most of these troops are or have been deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan).

The U.S. military has about 500,000 troops deployed outside the borders of the U.S. in 130 countries.

In 2006, the military budget amounted to $441.6 billion or $1,500/per person. The U.S. government spends 47% of total world military budget. The U.S. military budget is greater than the combined total of the next 20 biggest military powers.
